Sketchy’s subject-matter experts help ensure accuracy and alignment of Sketchy’s materials in their areas of expertise. They keep us on track with what experts in the field know to be true and important, and they deliver documentation and recommendations to that effect. In particular, we are looking for one or more experts in Emergency Medicine, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Primary Care, and Psychiatry to help us build the next generation of Sketchy’s clinical-year and USMLE Step 2 prep materials. We aspire to create the most effective companion for this difficult stretch of medical school, using new technology, solid and trusted material, and our trademark Sketchy charm. 

This is a contract position, and we expect the overall time commitment to be 5-10 hours per week, with this project lasting through at least mid-2024.  The screening process for this role will have you meeting with members of the team, and it may also include a brief work sample of instructional or assessment writing. Compensation will be paid on an hourly basis at first, but may transition to a piecewise rate (with comparable effective hourly rates) after onboarding and the early stages of the project are complete.

Responsibilities:

  • Scope lesson content specific to USMLE Step 2/Third Year Medical Students
  • Write lesson outlines and learning objectives for specified clinical topics, referencing gold standard textbooks and peer-reviewed literature.
  • Outline and write educational text to guide lesson creation
  • Review educational scripts, art, and illustrations for scientific accuracy and clarity
  • Review and edit assessment items that accompany Sketchy lessons
  • Advocate for student needs, based on domain knowledge gained through personal and professional experience
  • Execute appropriate ad-hoc projects and assignments as needed and agreed upon
  • Edit, review, and consult on other content (in your area of expertise) as needed

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years experience in teaching or education, interacting directly with learners and/or creating instructional materials or curricula
  • Excellent writing, editorial, and research skills
  • MD/DO/MBBS or equivalent degree required 
  • Proven expertise in clinical internal medicine, board certification preferred 
  • Experience in test prep (e.g., USMLE) and test-taking strategies preferred
  • Experience in creative content production (e.g., digital platforms, e-learning, instructional design) preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfort with online collaboration formats (e.g., Google suite, Zoom)
  • Eager attitude for working with cool people to make awesome new things

Salary Range: 

$60.00 - $70.00 per hour
